How I Made Money In My First Three Months of Blogging

Ok, I swore I’d never post these income report type blogs, but yet here I am following the trend. As many of you know I created The Busy Mom Diary as a journal, a real-live diary where I could jot down my thoughts on my latest parenting fails. However, it quickly became something that I wanted to share more publicly. I don’t have a specific niche, but I’d say I fall somewhere into the category of a Mommy Blogger.  I share parenting adventures, product reviews, the occasional recipe and most importantly I share whatever the heck I want too – afterall it is my blog. I am also using my blog as a platform to speak out and raise awareness about mental illness and bullying. I hope to take a more active role in this venture.

I didn’t create this blog and embark on this adventure to make money. This is a hobby and I don’t spend too much time promoting or seeking out opportunities. I am also still a newbie when it comes to the blogging world and if I’m being serious, I’m just faking my way around. I really have no idea what I am doing most days.

I’m calling this my first quarterly income report and it will cover the period from October 2016 to December 2016. This is when I established my site and really started to entertain the idea that I could make a little bit of money – my aim has always been to make enough to allow my site to run smoothly without any out of pocket expenses.

Alright, let’s get to the numbers!!

October –December 2016

All funds have been converted to Canadian Funds. I have not included any items marked with the * as I have not reached the minimum payout thresholds and therefore I have not received payment.

Income:

*Google Ads: $20.23

*Media Net: $1.15

*Bloglovin’ Activate: $0.26

Sponsored Content: $63.40

E-Bates Canada: $6.31

Product Value: $42.91

Total: $112.64

 Expenses:

Fiverr (Logo): $8.27

Total: $119.75

Total For The Quarter (3 Months of Blogging)

Income: $112.64

Expenses: $119.75

Net Income:  -$7.11

Well, there you have it. I didn’t break the bank account but it’s also not flourishing. Stay tuned for bigger updates in the near future – maybe I’ll be a rockstar!!!

  1. Great job! Getting a sponsored post in the first 3 months is awesome! I’m at 6 months blogging and just starting to actually make money instead of just breaking even.

    1. I browsed websites, applied to many different opportunities. Joined a lot of Facebook groups. Keep trying, you will get there!!

  2. This is great. I am in my first month and with the startup costs I am definitely in the negative but this gives me hopes that I can eventually start at least covering my expenses. It would be nice for blogging to add some supplemental income, but that comes with time and a lot of work. 🙂 I think you are doing great.

    1. I’m in Canada and from what I’ve seen they do have world-wide campaigns. You should def. look into this.

  3. Although you might feel like you haven’t made any profits yet, I am sure you have gained so much knowledge over the last quarter, and it’s all about learning and gaining experience. I have found the money shed not sure how it all works, but it helps you to earn money and gives you tips I think? Well worth looking in to. Good luck with your blog this year, I am a newbie so I am learning all the time X

  4. Hi “Busy Mom”. Congrats on earning money online. Your domain and hosting cost is for the whole year right? $111.48 is not a monthly cost. So, it looks like you will come out on top in your earnings and profit soon.

I have a free video series on Teachable. If to watch it you are welcome to. It shows how to make money with affiliate links: http://club-money-bin.teachable.com/p/start-up-your-blog-bring-in-your-income

That is a direct link to Teachable and not to my email list. So, you can watch the videos in your own timing and I hope they help. Many hugs to you and your family!

  5. Great job. How did you get sponsored posts so quickly? I’m interested in going that direction.

  6. Awesome job getting going on your income from the blog. I too am growing a new blog and getting a little income in. I am planning to ramp up my money making potential here in the new year!

    1. It’s such hard work. I really had no goals in making a profit. But it sure is nice when the blog pays for itself.
