It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like.. Holiday Movie Time!

Last night,  we opted for a quiet family movie night after dinner.

Holiday movies seem to be the only time that I don’t hear chirping from the minions on which movie to watch or which movie is better. I love that we can set aside our own favorites for the benefit of some much-needed family time as we sit snug on the couch with the Christmas Tree lights in full force.

We have very specific holiday movies that we watch over and over as each year passes, and tonight we kicked-off the movie time with Home Alone. It doesn’t get much better than this, we had snacks to enjoy and many laughs throughout the entire movie. No matter how many times we watch this movie, these old tricks never get old and leave us in stitches.

As a movie lover and since we are in the holiday season, here are my top five holiday movies, in no particular order. I love them all equally.

Home Alone

This is a ’90’s classic!!! One little boy forgotten at home and two house-robbing thieves will leave you and your family laughing throughout.

Christmas Vacation

Follow the Griswold family through many challenges as they attempt to survive the holiday season.

Elf

It doesn’t get much better than Will Ferrell dressed as an Elf and singing his favorite Christmas Carols.

The Grinch

This has always been one of my favorite Christmas specials. The feeling that warms your heart when the Grinch’s own heart grows two sizes.

The Santa Clause

This movie has always been another one of my favorites. If you’ve ever wondered what happens when you catch Santa on the roof top, this is the movie for you.

What are some of your favorite holiday movies to enjoy with your family? We want to hear all it.

  1. We grabbed a box of popcorn and marshmellows with the idea that we’d be snowed in this weekend watching Christmas movies. I wonder how many of these are on netflix! My daughters (21 and 17) have never seen home alone. How can that happen!?

  2. You nailed it with all the holiday movies! I remember watching all of them growing up and we just watched Christmas vacation the other night!

  3. The best thing about the holidays is definitely family time and movie nights curled up on the sofa – I’m definitely with you on the Home Alone – we always watch this too! In fact, I’ve just bought my daughter a Home Alone colouring book off Amazon to put in her Xmas stocking!

  4. I feel like such a bad mum because I have never done the Christmas movie marathon at home. We’very taken the kids to the cinema around Christmas time to watch a new release – this weekend Star Wars – but the home Xmas movie thing is usually my daughter with her mates. I haven’t seen any of the movies you mention here either!! Can you recommend one as a starter? Tx

    1. Tracey: It sounds like you guys have other holiday fun, the important thing is that you are spending time together. I’d recommend Home Alone, The Santa Clause and Elf.. either of those three movies are good for the entire family. Unless you have really small children, then I’d go with the Grinch or even Frosty The Snowman.
