Fast And Healthy Dinner Fixes From Mom’s Diner

Getting a healthy and nutritious meal into your brood every day can seem like a full-time job. Preparing meals from scratch can be labor intensive and time heavy, but it doesn’t have to be. In fact, there are plenty of ways you can cut down the time you spend cooking and still feed your family delicious and healthy food. Just read on to find out more.

Wedges from scratch
One way you can ensure the kids are as eating as well as possible is to make your potato wedges. Sometimes fries or wedges, the one that you buy in the stores, come covered with a coating to make them crisp up in the oven. But this isn’t usually very good for you.

Instead, you can make your own very easily, and have the peace of mind that comes from knowing exactly what has gone into them.

All you need to do is take a large potato per person and cut in half, then quarters, then eighths. Toss the uncooked wedges in a dash of olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Add chilli, smoked paprika, and herbs if you like.

Then lay out of a baking tray and cook for 20-30 mins in a hot oven. At which point you can carry on prepping and cooking the rest of the meal. They go great with homemade chicken nuggets. Or even as a base to wedge nachos with chilli con carne and guacamole, and you can be sure that they only contain the best and healthy ingredients.

Fresh bread
Another staple in my house is bread. Whether it’s as an accompaniment to the meal or as the essence of sandwich for when the kids want something lighter.

But unfortunately, the gluey, sweet squares of ready sliced bread that you can buy in the supermarkets aren’t always the best food to be eating all of the time. That is because the bread that you can buy in the store’s nutritional value is often low, while its calories are high. The solution, of course, it to buy healthy wholemeal bread, which they don’t always have, or make it yourself.

Although making your bread can seem like going above and beyond the call of duty for many moms, in fact, it isn’t too difficult or time-consuming. Especially if you have an automatic breadmaker. As all you need to do is a tip in a healthy bread mix, turn it on and let it do its thing.

In fact, you have even just pop it on and do something else, and you still get delicious, nutritious bread at the end of it as they do all the kneading and baking for you.
