I’m not very good at keeping secrets and everyone knows that my two favorite things in the world is cake and chocolate. A while back, it was my daughter’s birthday and she was having a party, of course we needed a cake.
I really didn’t want to spend loads of money on a cake that would have us stuffing our faces with left overs for days, so I decided to make the one and only Kit Kat Cake – I mean who can resist cake wrapped in chocolate bars? Most definitely not me.
Now I’m not the most creative or capable with complicated ideas, but I was pretty sure I could tackle this, it couldn’t be that difficult right?
I used a box cake mix, jar of icing, Kit Kat bars, smarties and a ribbon all purchased from the dollar store, total cost approximately $15.00 – I didn’t keep track. Now that I have conquered this cake and gathered my own tips and tricks, I wanted to share them with you.
Directions: make the round cake as per the box instructions. Once done and cooled, cover completely in icing. Then place the kit jar bars around the cake, placing them close together side by side. Use a wide ribbon and tie in the centre of the bars.
- Don’t stress about how the cake turns out, you will be covering it in frosting anyways.
- You can never have enough smarties, so buy an extra pack or two. M&M would also work.
- Prior to surrounding the cake with the Kit Kat, I recommend that you put them in the freezer. Layer them in a dish with wax paper between layers. This will keep them from melting in your hands during placement.
