Review: Grammarly

Are you sure that’s even English? I have muttered that question to myself time and time again as I attempt to proofread my articles. I’m embarrassed to say that often I wonder if I was ever actually paying attention back in 10th Grade English. I make no excuses, I’m a busy mom that works full-time – sometimes I’m writing articles in between washing dishes and feeding the dogs.  Sometimes I need help, and this is where the amazing Grammarly steps in to help me with my writing skills.

What is Grammarly?

Grammarly is a unique platform that was launched in 2009 and is being used by people worldwide with various backgrounds. The easy to use interface proofreads content that you have uploaded and can analyze your written words for the most common grammatical mistakes.  You can now say goodbye to those embarrassing typos.

How Does It Work?

There are many ways to use this online proofreading platform. If you do most of your writing online, you can easily download and install the extension into your web browser. The plug-in extension is compatible with most modern web browsers, including Chrome. This plug-in feature automatically checks for spelling and grammatical errors when you update a status on Facebook, send a tweet or even write an e-mail. The plug-in even works with WordPress. How great is that?

There is also a stand-alone add-on for MS Word that is easy to install by visiting their website or Grammarly.

Alternatively, you may choose to use the web version to verify your content for errors. Just copy your content in the space provided, correct mistakes and copy it back. It’s as simple as 1, 2, 3.

Cost of Grammarly

There is both a free and a premium package available.

The free package is limited to 150 critical grammar and spelling errors. If you opt-in for the premium package you will receive many additional features which include vocabulary enhancement, advanced grammar and spelling checks together with a plagiarism check against millions of web pages.
Grammarly has been incredibly helpful to me and my writing as it catches all the small things that I may miss due to this strenuous eye twitch from staring at my computer screen all day!!!

If you are an avid writer or blogger, I would recommend the premium package for its additional features, specifically the plagiarism tool. It’s so important to create unique content in your own words. For the more light-hearted writer who just needs some minor proofreading, the free package is perfect on its own.

Did I mention that Grammarly offers a 7- day money back guarantee. Try them out, and if you are not completely satisfied, they will refund your money. That is how sure they are of their product.

What are you still waiting for, go check out Grammarly?

  1. Great review!
I use it personally and love it.
Your post will definitely help others looking for such tools.
    Thanks for sharing!

  2. Thank you for such a thorough review. I use Grammarly, and as a tool, it’s the best out there and the least convoluted in its markups. What it doesn’t do (anymore than any other software of this type) is allow for stylistic originality, so unless you already understand English grammar well, some of the things it shows as “wrong” are actually “right,” even under the style check options. And Grammarly does say to consult a professional proofreader if you have questions about their markings.
